Meet

The Founder

Hi, I'm Matthew J. Sánchez, a Southern California native, motivated to create technology and products with purpose and generational legacy.

After earning my Bachelor of Science degrees in Applied Mathematics and Chemistry with minors in Entrepreneurship and International Finance from UCLA, then being an AI Researcher at The University of Michigan, I would spend 3.5 meticulous and aromatic years in deep fragrance and chemistry research, studying perfumery. In these studies, I observed how, with certain molecules and their ability to stimulate neurotransmitters, my fragrances can positively alter and impact emotions, mood, and therefore the smeller's (mental) wellbeing and health, holistically.

"A True Art & Science"

Self-taught in perfumery, then a Perfumer's Apprentice, in October 2017 I founded MATTEO PARFUMS®.

Son of a Mexican-Sicilian father and Ghanaian-American mother, I am a product of—and entirely captivated by—globalization and multiculturalism. My entrepreneurial spirit and gravitation towards international exploration, plus the arts and sciences, came naturally to me in my childhood.

In my last year at UCLA, I knew I wanted to mix my love of connecting with others, cultural exploration, and entrepreneurship. I knew that of all five senses, our sense of smell has the strongest connection to our memories and emotions; in other words, the intangibles that make life incredible and link us together.

This ancient sense of ours is not only the most visceral, but it's also still relatively unknown and misunderstood. I knew I wanted to impact people through the scientific and artistic powers of scent and magnetic, multicultural storytelling.

This is the vision and desire for MATTEO PARFUMS®: to design The Frontier of Fine Fragrance™. I want to influence modern scent and beauty industries, to inspire confidence and incubate fellow visionaries, and immerse people into the whimsical, multicultural, and imaginative world of MATTEO PARFUMS®.

Proving Fine Fragrance is Multicultural, Whimsical, and Imaginative

"Making Young Me Proud"

I'm the winner of L'Oréal's Beauty Fund (2024) and named to the 2026 Forbes 30 Under 30 List for Retail & eCommerce. I'm currently based in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.

Outside of Fragrance and AI, I have successful corporate experience as a Product, Program, and Operations leader in the Banking & Financial Services, VC, and Tech industries. As a VC, I focused on investments, research, and communities in Beauty & CPG, Deep Tech, and Health & Wellness.

I hold B.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Chemistry with minors in Global Studies (International Finance) and Entrepreneurship from UCLA. I was previously an AI Researcher at The University of Michigan, studying natural language processing (NLP) and semantic analysis, and a former AI blogger.
